Students assisting teachers
This story was focused on student teaching assistants and what they do for teachers. My partner and I spent time in a classroom before and after an interview to observe what the atmosphere was like with just two people in a classroom without a class. After that, we spent time discussing how we wanted to display the interviews and information in an engaging way that caught the attention of our viewers. We decided on focusing on what the TAs do for the teachers and go from there. We wrote about how each TA was able to have a positive learning experience and how both parties (teachers and teaching assistants) benefited from the activity.

The Spectrum community comes together for Brady Johnson
In October of my junior year and my third year on the NOISE staff, a freshman named Brady Johnson was hit by a car while walking home from cross country practice. Instead of reporting on the accident, which many larger news companies had already done, my partner and I chose to go a different route and report on how the Spectrum community had come together to support him and his family. So many people had taken something horrible and turned it into something inspirational and loving. Many people within our school community were donating, cooking food, and sending positive thoughts toward Brady and the Johnson family.
Second place winner in the Broadcast News Story section at the MSHPA convention on October 18, 2023.
Aidden Tilly; a hearfelt story about a rare heart disorderDuring my senior year, I reported on a middle school student who was waiting for a heart to get transplanted. For this story, my partner and I had to do a lot of digging surrounding Aidden Tilly. He is an 8th grader at our school, so there was a lot of disconnect between the two buildings. We weren't as familiar with him as we would have been if he was in high school. We were able to fill in some gaps, however, with Aidden's older brother, Wyatt. Wyatt provided us with important information pertaining to Aidden and his friends.
