One thing I enjoy reporting on and making stories about are personal interests of people. Seeing each one light up when they're talking about something they enjoy is something I'm passionate about. To create this story, my partner and I conducted every interview and dove deep into each person's interest. We took the time to visit the tech club or see each earring that someone had made.

During my senior year, a partner and I were assigned the story of hunting, a vague topic. Together, we interviewed people around the school and realized that hunting was a lot more than going out in a deer stand. We discovered that hunting is something that brings families together and creates memories many can look back on years later. One interview in particular stood out among the others we conducted. Mr. Hyde, who is a social studies teacher at Spectrum, elaborated on how he has fond memories of bringing his daughter out to go hunting with him. He spoke about her bringing down a huge deer and the bond that that experience created between the two of them.

During my junior year, I highlighted how different personalities are shown around the school. Something that my partner and I noticed was that people decorated their lockers. They were a great show of personality. Using videos and pictures of their lockers, we were able to tell the stories of all the interviewees more clearly. Each person had a unique story to go with each item, which allowed not only me and my partner to see within their lives, but everyone who viewed the story. |
As a sophomore, I was on the Special News Team. My partner and I wanted to go beyond what other teams had done and reach out to a local celebrity. We had reached out to a few people in the area, including government officials, and had gotten an email back from the Elk River mayor, John Dietz. He had agreed to meet with us to do an interview profile on him. We came up with various questions to ask him, including his upbringing and what got him into wanting to be the mayor.

This story is about the Spectrum Sting Dance Team and the opportunity they gained to perform at a Minnesota Timberwolves basketball game. My partner and I interviewed many of the dancers and the head coach of the team about the experience. The dancers had to adapt to a changed routine, because they had faced complications based on how many dancers could actually attend the performance. |
